Build a recurring grocery list by choosing the products your household buys repeatedly and noting roughly how often you buy each one. Review those regulars before your next shop, then add anything specific to the week ahead. OurPantry keeps the grocery memory separate from the next shopping list, so remembering a product does not mean buying it every time.

Start with a few real regulars

Think about the last couple of grocery trips. Which items appeared more than once? Milk, bread, eggs, or a particular breakfast cereal may be useful starting points. Your first recurring list does not need to cover the entire kitchen. A handful of products that are easy to forget can make the next planning session more useful than a long catalogue you rarely review.

Name products clearly enough that either shopper will recognise them. “Milk” may be fine in one household; another needs “semi-skimmed milk” because several kinds live in the fridge. Avoid creating several slightly different entries for the same everyday product when one shared name will do.

In OurPantry, choose the regular groceries you want to track and give them approximate buying rhythms. The household grocery memory also gathers products from completed shops. Possible regulars are offered for review, so you keep control over what becomes actively tracked instead of turning every one-off purchase into a permanent reminder.

Choose a rhythm that leaves room for real life

Use your buying pattern as a starting point, rather than pretending you can predict the exact day a product runs out. You might buy milk about every seven days and eggs about every ten. These intervals describe shopping behaviour. They cannot account perfectly for visitors, a change in pack size, a week away, or someone suddenly having cereal every morning.

A recurring list works best when it prompts a small decision. Before a shop, ask whether there is enough for the days ahead. OurPantry brings eligible tracked products into a restock review and gives a plain reason, such as “usually bought every 7 days”. Check the kitchen, then add the product, say you still have some, or skip it for this shop.

Correct the rhythm when it repeatedly feels wrong. You can review tracked products in Pantry and adjust your choices as household habits change. Pausing something you no longer buy regularly is more useful than repeatedly dismissing a suggestion that has stopped matching your life.

Turn the regulars into this week’s shop

Keep two ideas distinct: the products worth remembering and the products you intend to buy now. Your regulars provide the first part of a shopping plan. The next shop should contain only what you decide to buy, together with extras for the coming days. A birthday cake ingredient, for example, belongs on the next shop without needing to become a tracked regular.

Invite your partner to check the shared list before either of you shops. They can add something you missed or answer a restock question for a product they use. If shopping online, copy or share the prepared list and use it alongside the supermarket’s ordering process. Review quantities and substitutions with the retailer; OurPantry does not place the order for you.

When you finish the shop, mark it complete. That gives the app a record of the purchase and helps the household’s grocery memory reflect what actually happened. Over time, revisit regulars that are no longer useful. A recurring list earns its place by reducing the amount you need to remember, so it should remain short enough to trust and easy enough for either person to maintain.

Common questions

Should every grocery become a recurring item?

No. Track products you buy often enough for a reminder to help. One-off ingredients can stay on the next shop without becoming regulars.

Will OurPantry buy my recurring groceries automatically?

No. You decide what goes on the next shop and place any online order yourself. A buying rhythm prepares a suggestion, not a purchase.
